The Presidents are Tennessee's first Drum and Bugle Corps, and were formed in 1950. The corps has participated in numerous drum and bugle corps contests, two Presidential Inaugural parades, several Gubernatorial parades, and many special parades and exhibitions. They placed eighth, seventh, and fourth in three National Drum and Bugle Corps contests. The Presidents were deactivated in 1972, but were reactivated in 1999. The corps has a very rich heritage, a large number of alumni, and some talented new instructors ready to build the Presidents Drum and Bugle Corps back into a National contender. Please consider joining us, and be a part of this great experience.
Althought many of our members are local, we are a multi-state organization. It consits of buisnessmen, music directors, corps instructors, drum corps enthusiasts, drum corps members, and alumni from several areas in Tennessee and Virginia. The Presidents Drum and Bugle Corps has a Board of Directors, and is a registered non-profit organization (irs tax deductible) with the State of Tennessee. The corps was formed to be a competitive participant in Drum Corps International, but now is an all-age corps member with Drum Corps Associates. The Presidents program for marching and music will be combined with a leadership, citizenship, and individual achievement building program which has challenge, excitement, fun, and teaches self discipline.
The corps is seeking male and female members who are 18 years of age and above to play in stand stills, parades, and compete in DCA competitions in 2008. The corps will charge a small initial fee for joining, but training is provided free of charge in the use of brass, percussion, spin and choreograph with rifles, flags and/or auxillary equipment, drum majoring, or members who have no experience (but have a desire to learn). The corps fees help the corps pay for music arrangements, off set travel costs, DCA applications, instruments that will be needed, and food provided for the corps while at rehearsals. We want to also solicit any parents, alumni, and anyone else interested in helping the corps with instruction, the Board, or various commites regardless of age.
We currently have all uniforms, battery equiptment, and most horns. If any brass members have their own horns, please bring them with you. Our tentative brass arrangements are being written by Mr. Dennis Eveland who has been a brass instructor for the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps and the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Our percussion arrangements are being written by our Corps Director Mr. Jeremy Kirk, who marched with the SouthWind Drum and Bugle Corps, and is currently teaching percussion at Marshall University. Our front ensemble instructor marched with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps.
